“Some people earn brownie points by building stuff for their wives; I throw beer festivals.”That’s what inspired Kerry Finsand, founder of Taplister, to put together the Rye Beer Fest. Taplister doesn’t make any money off the Rye Beer Fest—instead, the annual event raises money for a charity of his wife’s choosing. This year, the Rye Beer Fest benefited Bridge City Paddling’s fundraising efforts for the Children’s Cancer Association.
The Rye Beer Fest is part of Portland Beer Week, which runs from June 6th to 16th. This year there were 20 beers on tap, an increase from last year’s 17, and Kerry expects it to continue to grow each year. For those who aren’t fans of this spicy, flavorful beer, there are also rye cocktails and rye food.
